bocas del toro
Bocas del Toro is by far the most popular beach destination in Panama. Not only does it welcome thousands of tourists from all over the world, but also Panamanians looking to escape their daily routine on the weekends to have some fun. And why wouldn’t it be? The pristine beaches of the archipelago look almost too good to be true. Pictures you’ll take for your Instagram profile will be postcard material, no filters needed!
Bocas del Toro is an archipelago of 7 main islands located in the northwestern Caribbean sea of Panama and counts approximately 8,000 inhabitants of Spanish, indigenous, Afro-Antillean, as well as German and American origin.
Isla Colon is the main island and largest one of the archipelago. We also refer to it as "Bocas Town". It has its own airport with flights arriving from Panama City, David and Costa Rica, so unless you are traveling from Boquete by shuttle or bus, you will be landing directly at 15 minutes walking distance from the hostel. Isla Colon is where it’s all happening with an impressive concentration of tour operators, restaurants and bars. From the center of Bocas Town you will be able to access all the other islands and beaches by boat or taxi. For shopping and strolling, simply walk down the main road (3rd street), where most commercial activity is concentrated. Even right at Mamallena Bocas you will find Yoga classes, meditation classes and SUP Yoga offered. If you like surfing, you’ll have a different surf schools to choose from, or simply rent your own board and visit the best surf spots around the island. Other interesting islands to spend the day include Isla Carenero and Isla Bastimentos which can be accessed by boat from Isla Colon.
